Did you know that at least 10% of the happiness that you can expect to experience will be determined by your life circumstances? How often have you asked yourself, “What do I want to do with my life?” If you’re like most people, the answer is “I don’t know.”

It can be tough to determine what we want out of life. We all have different needs and values, and what matters to us may not matter to someone else. That’s why it’s so important to figure out what we want; so that we can focus on those things that are most important to us and find happiness in our lives.

We’ll discuss how to find out how you can do what you want with your life on your terms. Let’s look at how we can define different parts of our lives and what we expect from them.

What Do You Want and What Don’t You Want?

When figuring out what we want, the first step is acknowledging that we want something. Many people go through life without taking the time to figure out what they want and why they want it. It’s just as essential to determining what we know we don’t wish to do as well.

This might be due to a lack of confidence or not knowing where to start, but whatever the reason, it’s crucial that we take some time for ourselves and reflect on our wants and needs. Once you’ve acknowledged that you want something, ask yourself these questions:

  • What are my values?
  • What do I need to be happy?
  • What gives me a sense of purpose?

These questions will help you understand what’s important to you and what you need to be content with.

Do What You Want With Your Life by Doing What Makes You Happy

If you say to yourself, “I want a life,” figure out the things that make you feel good or that make you feel like you have the life you want. What do you enjoy doing? When do you feel the most content?

If there’s something that brings joy but is hard to fit into your schedule, see any alternatives to obtain similar results. The point here is that even if your original idea may seem somewhat out of reach, it doesn’t have to be.

Allow yourself to adjust the idea to fit your schedule or vice versa. Finding what makes us happy is essential to finding our purpose in life. Once we know what brings us joy, we can start focusing on doing more of those things.

What Are Your Needs?

How do you want your life to be? You have to know what makes you happy and vital to you. What are the things you need to feel fulfilled in your life or to be able to do the things that will get you there?

For example, do you need a lot of alone time, or do you need social interaction? If you need more alone time, try scheduling some time each day for yourself where you can relax and recharge. If you need more structure, try finding a job with more set hours.

Remember that what you need can vary depending on what you want. Recognize that with different phases of our lives come extra steps, which don’t have to be permanent.

Use those steps needed to achieve your goals as temporary stepping stones.

How About Your Values?

Identifying your values will consist of knowing what you stand for and what you consider necessary. For example, some people might value honesty, while others might value compassion. Some people might place much importance on their careers while others put more importance on their families.

Additionally, you may come across those who have found the perfect balance and didn’t allow themselves to compromise because they wanted to have both. Think about the most important things to you and write them down. People often dismiss the power of manifestation.

What Gives You a Sense of Purpose?

Many people ask themselves how they get what they want out of life. For some people, finding their purpose in life is easy. They know from a young age what they want to do with their lives, and they focus all their energy on reaching that goal.

Others might not be sure about their purpose or have several things that interest them, but they’re unsure which one to pursue.

Figuring out what gives you a sense of purpose can be difficult, but it’s essential to finding fulfillment.

What Activities Lead to Flow?

Now you know your purpose. Maybe you intend to help others, make the world a better place, or even make someone’s day a little brighter.

Here’s a tip; stop trying to decide if you have more than one interest and are struggling with what to put your energy into. Do what you want with your life by laying out the things that give you a sense of happiness. This is how you figure out what activities lead to your best flow.

How Do You Envision the Gestalt of Your Life?

So how do we find out what we want to do with our lives when so many things sound interesting? By combining our behavior with our mindset to determine our patterns.

An easy way to help you figure out how you would like to envision the configuration of your life is by asking yourself one thing; when was the last time you felt alive and in the moment? People will realize they can see small elements of their life as part of the bigger picture.

Who Do You Admire (or Get Jealous Of)?

Knowing this and admitting to ourselves who we look up to or who we can structure how we find our own version of happiness. With this, eliminate jealousy, spite, or the need to mimic. Think more about what makes you want to be like someone or why you want what another has.

Use those people as resources and get advice or tips to be mentors.

What Would You Want if There Were No Limits?

Asking yourself this will allow you to have a mental restart. This is a great way to start or end a journey of figuring out what you want from life. This is also a great way to manifest new ways to get what you want or need by thinking outside what you perceive as usual.

Figure Out What You Want!

Keep this in mind; our lives are entirely customizable. It may not always feel that way because everyone’s circumstances are different. However, it doesn’t have to constitute happiness. The variables that factor into our pleasure can be changed with considerable effort.
