Crawlability
The ability of search engine bots to access and navigate through your website's pages. If a page isn't crawlable, it can't be indexed or ranked.
Why Crawlability Matters for SEO
You can have the best content on the internet, but if Googlebot can't reach it, it doesn't exist in search. Crawlability issues are silent killers because the content looks fine to humans while being completely invisible to bots.
How Crawlability Works
Search engines follow links and read your robots.txt to determine which pages they can access. Crawlability breaks down when pages are blocked by robots.txt, require authentication, sit behind JavaScript that bots can't execute, or have no internal links pointing to them.
Common Mistakes
- Accidentally blocking important pages in robots.txt after a site migration
- Relying solely on JavaScript navigation that bots can't follow
- Having critical pages buried 5+ clicks deep with no direct internal links
